Transanal ultrasonography was performed on 10 cases of pelvirectal Abscess or fistulas which were surgically treated at our hospital and the following results were obtained.<BR>1. Images of the puborectal, pubococcygeal and ileococcygeal muscles were obtained by means of ultrasonography.<BR>2. The musculus levator ani did not show a dish-like continuity but there was a space between the upper components of the ileococcygeal muscle and the lower components of the puborectal and pubococcygeal muscle near the ischiorectal fossa.<BR>3. The lesion of the ischiorectal fossa extented upwards through this space into the pelvirectal fossa.<BR>4. The perforated portion of the musculus levator ani was found deviating from the 6 o'clock direction of the anus to the right (5 o'clock direction) or to the left (7 o'clock direction).
