The patient was a 78-year-old woman who was diagnosed as having malignant lymphoma of the cecum and underwent right colectomy at our institution in 1988. After surgery 2 courses of chemotherapy with CHOP were additionally given. The patient was observed for the postoperative course at the outpatient-clinic after discharge.<BR>In December 1991, viscous stool was noted and a mass was palpated in the rectal examination. Endscopic examination of the colon and rectum revealed a 17cm slightly irregular elevated lesion oral to the anal ring. Diagnosis of malignant lymphoma was made based on the biopsy findings, and Miles' operation was performed subsequently. This seems a rare case of malignant lymphoma which recurred in the rectum 3 years after the development of the primary in the cecum.
