The press-through package (PTP) is an excellent wrapping device for pills commonly used today. In spite of its convenience and superiority in practical use, PTP also poses a special problem: if mistakenly swallowed, it becomes a gastrointestinal foreign body. A sharp and hard edge may injure the oral cavity, throat, esophagus or other soft tissues when it is swallowed without pill extirpation. An 82-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with anal bleeding and pain. We found the foreign body in the rectal ampullary by digital examination. Based on pelvic CT findings, a diagnosis of intra rectal high density mass was made. A colonoscopy was done, because the foreign body could not be removed by anal extension. We removed the foreign body by endoscope. It was proved that the anal bleeding was induced by the PTP foreign body. Case reports of foreign bodies usually involve the gastrointestinal tract. We experienced a rare case of anal bleeding caused by PTP.
