A clinicopathological study was made on five cases of hepatocellular carcinoma with right atrial tumor thrombus. Clinically all the csaes had edema in the legs, venousdilatation in the abdominal wall, ascites and dyspnea.<BR>Dyspnea paroxymally aggravated and it was alleviated by taking left lateral decubitus in two cases. Three of the five cases developed shock which was induced by changing the posture. In the course of the disease gallop rhythm was detected in two cases. Pathologically all the cases had hepatocellular carcinoma with macronodular cirrhosis.<BR>The tumoral thrombus had completely occluded the hepatic vein and inferior vena cava and reached the right atrium without interuption in four out of the five cases. In the one cases the tumor thrombus was not in the hepatic vein but partially occluded the inferior vena cava and reached the right atrium.
