抄録

Biopsy specimen taken from three patients of fulminant hepatitis were examined under electron microscope. The most striking finding of the two cases of early stage of fulminant hepatitis was an accumulation of numerous small fat droplets with severely damaged mitochondria in the cytoplasma of the hepatocytes. This finding was similar to one of Reye's syndrome. The hepatocytes undergoing coagulation necrosis also contained these fat drop1ets. In the necrotic area, there were many cell debris, macrophages, lymphocytes and fat-storing cells with new collagen formation. In addition, small hepatocytes were often noted in the peripheral part of the lobule. They are probably regenerative hepatocytes because of their well preserved organelles.
