Abstract

In the present study, the uptake of rabbit's immunoglobulin against horseradish-peroxidase (HRPO) into the columnar epithelial cells in the gut of rainbow trout have been investigated.
First of all, rabbit's antiserum against HRPO was prepared with an intramuscular injection of HRPO to the rabbit.
Subsequently, the antiserum was administered into the gut of rainbow trout.
Then, the gut was fixed with periodate-lysine-paraformaldehyde (PLP) and a thin slice was made (thickness 6-8μm) with a cryostat. The histological specimens were incubated with HRPO solution so as to produce an immuno complex between rabbit IgG and HRPO, and then they were stained by Graham Karnovsky's method.
Some of these specimens were prepared for electron microscopic observations.
Results of light and electron microscopic observations suggested that the columnar epithelial cells took up animality protein, such as rabbit IgG, by pinocytosis through the pits of microvilli without digestion and the most active uptake of rabbit IgG was found in the posterior gut of ainbow trout.
