抄録

A new method for the extraction of organomercury compounds in industrial waste water is proposed. It is based upon the separation of the organomercury compound by an extraction with chloroform in an acid medium in the presence of potassium permanganate and the successive dithizone colorimetry. To 100200ml of sample water adjusted to 0.10.2N hydrochloric acid in a separatory funnel are added 1/3 volume of chloroform and then 6% potassium permanganate solution dropwise and swirling the mixture until the solution turns pink and 0.2ml in excess. The mixture is shaken for 3minutes and the chloroform layer is put into another funnel. An amount of 10% hydroxylamine hydrochloride solution sufficient to decompose excess potassium permanganate in aqueous layer is added and extraction with chloroform is repeated twice. The aqueous layer is discarded. After backwashing of the combined chloroform layer with 0.1N hydrochloric acid to remove contaminants such as mercuric ion, the organomercury compound in the chloroform layer is reversely extracted twice into 0.10.2N ammonia (each 20ml) and determine dcolorimetrically by using dithizone-chloroform extraction method.<BR>The proposed method was applied to the determination of the organomercury compounds such as alkylmercury chloride and phenylmercury acetate down to the level of 0.01 ppm in industrial wastes, and the results were satisfactory. No appreciable interferences were given by the presence of mercuric ion, hydrogen sulfide, sodium sulfide, thioglycolic acid, thioacetamide, thiourea and thiosulfate, each of which interfered with ordinary extraction with chloroform. When sample contained cyanides and thiocyanates, 0.1g of mercurous chloride must be added next to the addition of potassium permanganate, otherwise the results were too low.
