The immunogenic effect of inactivated hepatitis B vaccine was evaluated in 80 healthy volunteers working at medical institutions who were negative with both HBsAg and HBsAb. Antibody was induced in 51 (69.9%) out of 73 subjects at 4th week after the third vaccination.<br>At three years after the first vaccination, the reverse seroconversion to HBsAg-negative was found in 5 (18.5%) out of 27 responders to HB vaccine. All of these 5 cases were of those whose HBsAb titers were less than 50 in cut off index (RIA) after the third vaccination.<br>These findings demonstrated that the evaluation of HBsAb titers at 4th week after three vaccinations is useful in understanding the changes of HBsAb titers after vaccinations so as to decide on the timing for additional vaccination.<br>In high responders with HBsAb titers of 50 or more, additional vaccinations are not needed at least for three years.
