12 male MP 1 albino rats were exposed to X-irradiation in utero at a single dose of 200 R on day 17 of gestation. These and 8 male offspring of unirradiated dams were studied in a two-way active avoidance situation at approximately 7 weeks of age. During the habituation period, the spontaneous crossings in the irradiated rats were not significantly different from those in the controls. The number of avoidance responses in the irradiated rats was greater than the controls. The facilitatory effect of prenatal X-irradiation on two-way avoidance behavior was associated with concurrent higher intertrialcrossings (intertrial-responses).
