The amount of marine organisms attaching to mild steel surfaces which were given cathodic protection by sacrificial anode method using aluminum alloy anode varied according to protec-tive current density. It was smallest below 30 mA/m2, largest between 50 at 300 mA/m2, and slightly smaller at 1000 mA/m2. It was also observed that the attaching organisms treated at protective current densities below 100 mA/m2 were liable to peel off from the mild steel surfaces along with corrosion products and it was easiest at 0 mA/m2 in no protective condition, while those treated at exactly or over 100 mA/m2 were difficult to peel off.<br> There were no variations in the kind of attaching species to differences in protective cur-rent density. It was observed that in mild steel surfaces treated at 100-150 mA/m2, each species presented uniform growth, while those treated at below 100 mA/m2 or over 150 mA/m2 showed uneven distribution of preferential species and non-uniform growth of attaching species.
