The detection system (DS) to shoplifter might affect to the patient with implantable cardiac pacemaker (PM). Two types of DS, detectors using magnet or high frequency, were used to test the influence on the PMs. Total of 57 PMs (VVI 37, DDD 17 and VVIR 3) were tested. Check list was made from our previous experience of radiation, MRI, electrocoagulator, and shock wave lithotripsy which influenced on PMs. Test of the PMs against DS were made accordingly to check list, (1) false inhibition, (2) EMI protection, (3) program and telemetry malfunction, (4) back-up pacing, and (5) damage to the LSI or microcomputer system. There was no PMs affected by the DS tested. Thus, we concluded that detection system to shoplifter do not influence on PMs.
