• An Effect of Haptoglobin on Resistance of Hemoglobin to Acid Denaturation

抄録

It is demonstrated that haptoglobin prevents the acid denaturation of ferrihemoglobin in citrate-phosphate buffer, pH 4.0. In the oxygenated derivative, hemoglobin-haptoglobin complex shows elevated autoxidation rate at pH 4.0 but does not undergo an acid denaturation whereas in these conditions oxyhemoglobin shows the absorption spectrum characteristic of denatured hemeprotein complexes. It is confirmed that haptoglobin increases peroxidase activity of hemoglobin by protecting hemoglobin from denaturation by acid.
