Abstract

A bacteriophage strain designated as FnP1 specific for Fusobacterium necrophorum was isolated from bovine rumen fluid. It formed plaques on the strains of F.necroporum biovars A and B, but not on biovar C. The phage particles observed by electron microscopy had a hexagonal head of 50 nm in diameter and a long tail. The numcleic acid extracted by sodium dodecyl sulfate from Fnp1 was suggested to be deoxyribonucleic acid due to sensitivity to deoxyribonuclease-I.
