Etch-pit method is applied to pure Ag, Ag–In, Ag–Sn and Ag–Sb dilute alloy single crystals with the dislocation density ranging from 3×103 to 3×105/cm2 to investigate the density, distribution, velocity, multiplication and mobility of dislocations by changing solute content and testing temperature. The dislocation velocity at the yield point obtained is in the range of 0.6∼3.0 m/sec for pure Ag and Ag alloy single crystals investigated, depending little on the solute content and testing temperature. The stress exponent m for the velocity of pure Ag is 2.8 at room temperature and changes little with solute species and content. The dislocation motion at the yield point is considered to be controlled mainly by the interaction between moving dislocations and randomly distributed solute atoms.
