We have performed consultation of comprehensive management for the children with low vision in our clinic. Fifty-four low vision children had consultation of comprehensive management for the past eleven years. The children who obtained the consultation of comprehensive management were between two and sixteen years old, and thirty-six out of the fifty-four (65%) were pre-school children. Corrected visual acuities ranged 0∼(0.35). The diseases caused low vision were various, retinopathy of prematurity, macular degeneration, congenital aniridia, congenital cataract, congenital nystagmus and so on. Almost all of them wanted to enter an ordinal elementary school regardless of visual acuities, in fact 93% of those have entered an ordinal elementary school close to their house. They received various kind of low vision cares, such as keeping the front seat in the classroom, magnification of prints and magnified textbooks. But in many cases they did not received appropriate cares. As for visual aids, all cases whose readable smallest size of letters at closed distance were not exceeding (0.2) used visual aids for near vision. But the cases whose readable smallest size of letters at closed distance were over (0.4) did not use visual aids for near vision frequently. All cases whose corrected visual acuities were under (0.3) had visual aids for far vision. But it was difficult to use visual aids for far vision for children who were introduced to them after entering in an elementary school, because they were ashamed to use them. Their parents say they had comprehended difficulty of sight and considerations in their daily life, and they could reduce their anxiety owing to getting information about entering school and workshop for pre-school low vision children. In regard to low vision cares, it is very important to connect medical staff with school teachers, because they are growing. Consultation of comprehensive management is a start of connection with medical care and education, therefore it should be recommended to be introduced at least one year before entering an elementary school. It is also important to continue appropriate low vision cares for each child.
