Therapeutic effects of 1% and 2% creams of liranaftate (M-732; piritetrate) on an experimental dermatophytosis in guinea pigs infected with Trichophyton mentagrophytes were compared with 1% cream of tolciclate.<BR>The once a day topical treatment with 1% and 2% creams of liranaftate was started 3 days after infection and continued for 14 days. Both creams showed remarkable therapeutic effects both in improving the lesions and in eliminating the infected fungus. No significant difference was found in the lesion-suppressing effects among the experimental groups treated, whereas in mycological efficacy, significant superiority was observed in the order of 2% liranaftate, 1% liranaftate, and 1% tolciclate creams.
