抄録
This research aims at constructing technical basis to estimate quantitative environmental effects of a technology under research and development in the near future. This paper reports two case studies. One technology is a new hot-rolling technology of steel, which accepts a higher content of tramp elements in making steel. The reduction in the amount of steel scrap to be discarded per year in Japan in the year 2010 was calculated to be 3.8 million tons, while that of pig iron made of virgin iron ore was also 3.8 million tons. The other is a new forming technology of magnesium alloy, which would enable magnesium alloy to be formed with superplasticity, high strength, and high ductility. The amount of reduction of annual CO2 emission from automobiles in the whole world in the year 2010 was calculated to be from 53 to 100 million tons-CO2.
