Many factors are known to effect the onset and/or development of periodontal disease. Not only the direct effect of oral bacteria is related to the inflammatory destruction of tissue, but also the antigenicity of bacteria is a factor, i.e., the immune response between bacteria and their specific antibodies bound up with the indirect destruction of the tissne. Therefore, in order to determine the specific relationship between the humoral antibodies, -which is responsible for the immediate hypersensitivity, and periodontitis, patients without any systemic disease and with periodontal disease, -which had been considered to be caused by only localenvironmental factors, were selected for the experiment. In this study we investigated farther the correlation: between clinical features and each localization of IgG, IgA, and IgM in the inflamed gingivae, and then each contents of serum immunoglobulins in patients and between each localization of these immunoglobulins in the inflamed gingivae and each contents of these serumimmunoglobulins in patients with marginal periodontitis.
The results obtained were as follows.
1) No correration between clinical features and each localization of IgG, IgA, andIgM in the inflamed gingivae was found.
2) Each content of serum-IgG, IgA, and IgM increased in patients with marginal periodontitis but not in human with healthy gingivae and no correlation between the content clinical featur es was found.
3) Also there were no apparent correlation between each localization of IgG, IgA, and IgM in the gingivae and each content of serum immunoglobulins in patients with marginal periodontitis.
