抄録

The facial artery of the cat was investigated by means of the acryl plastic injection method. This artery arose from the external carotid artery between the origins of the lingual and posterior auricular arteries, or rarely from the superficial temporal distal to the origin of the posterior auricular or immediately medial to the terminal bifurcation of the external carotid. The facial artery passed forwards medial to the insertion of the masseter muscle up to the posterolateral end of the mylohyoideus, where it appeared on the face passing through the vascular notch of the mandible after giving off the submental artery. The facial continued anterosuperiorly along the anterior margin of the masseter, and finally terminated in the superior and inferior labial arteries at a position posterior to the oral angle. En route the facial artery gave off the following branches: the styloglossal, the digastric, the mandibular glandular, the inferior masseteric, the pterygoid branches, the descending palatine artery, the anterior masseteric, the cutaneous, the mandibular marginal and the buccal branches. It can be said that the facial artery of the cat was not similar to that of the rabbit but similar to that of the dog in its origin, passage, ramifications and distribution features.
