Sulfoquinovosyl diglyceride (sulfolipid) were separated by chromatography on a ECTEOLA cellulose column from the extracts of mulberry leaves and faeces of silkworm larvae. Lipid from the leaves which had been labeled with 35S-sulfuric acid for 24 hours separated to five 35S containing fractions on column chromatography. Most of the 35S in the lipid fraction was recovered as sulfolipid. No appreciable amounts of 35S, however, were recognized as sulfolipid in the extract of the faeces of silkworm larvae which were fed 35S-containing mulberry leaves. These results suggest that silkworm larvae actively dissimilate sulfolipid, which is the most abundant among the sulfur containing lipids in mulberry leaves.<br>When 35S labelled sulfolipid which was recovered from the extract of mulberry leaves was fed to the larvae, 35S was not incorporated into the cell constituent of the larvae and 35S of sulfolipid was entirely excreted.
