As a component of a research series on genetic mulberry resources, we used 260 mulberry genotypes to study traits such as inflorescence, fruit quantities and sizes, fruit sugar content, and seeds per fruit. We found 43 genotypes to be staminate and 137 pistillate. Fruit quantities and sizes differed significantly by genotype. The Shizensei-roso, Tenmokuyotsume and Itouwase genotypes bore large quantities of fruit. The Okaraguwa genotype had the largest fruit. Fruit sugar content ranged from 6.1 to 21.0%, with Myurienoaaru, Dateakagi, Akagi and Memurasaki having sugar content exceeding 17%. A taste test rated Okaraguwa and Kataneo highly, so these two were screened as fruit trees from our genetic mulberry resources along with several other genotypes.
