Coacervates were prepared by the mixing of aqueous solutions of gelatin denatured from tropocollagen and of chondoroitin sulfate-C (CSC). The coacervates were easily formed at pH=4.5 and weight ratio of CSC=0.10. The regenerated helicies of the collagen molecules in the dried sample of the coacervates consist of a small number of triple helix crystallites, which do not form a band structure. There is a layer having intermolecular hydrogen bonds between -NHCO groups of collagen molecules and -OH groups of CSC molecules in the outer surface of the coacervate. Most CSC molecules existed in this layer.
