Six years ago, we reported that topical 10% urea ointment therapy was an effective treatment for plane warts. In this paper, we report that topical 10% urea ointment therapy was an effective treatment for plantar warts.<BR>Five patients with plantar warts were successfully treated with topical 10% urea ointment therapy. Three patients with plantar warts were resistant to cryotherapy and one patient to keratolytic therapy. Ten percent urea ointment was applied to warts twice or thrice daily. In five cases, plantar warts were gradually subsided over one to seven months, and complete resolution of plantar warts was obtained within two to eight months. No significant adverse events occurred during topical 10% urea ointment therapy. The exact mechanism of action of 10% urea ointment in treatment of warts has not been determined but is thought to be more selective than simple keratolytic therapy. Treatment of plantar warts with urea ointment is painless and cheap and without side-effects.
