1) Diploid and triploid hybrids with 12 combinations were produced by the crosses between female rainbow trout, Oncorhynchvus mykiss (RT) and male of six species, RT, masu salmon O. mason (MS), brown trout, Salmo trutta (BN), Japanese common charr, Salvelinus leucomaenis pluvius (JC), white-spotted charr, Salvelinus l. leucomaenis (WS) and brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis (BT) .
2) In any combination, a part of larvae survived beyond swimming-up stage, However the survival rate of every allodiploid group were much lower than that of their triploid counterparts on the 30th day after swimming-up stage. No allodiploid fish survived till 1-year-old.
3) Under controlled feeding, the daily growth rates of immature 1-year-old triploids of RT×RT, RT×WS were superior to that of diploids of RT×RT. Under satiation level feeding, on the other hand, the daily growth rate of triploid of RT×RT was the highest.
4) During 8 months of maturing and spawning season, the growth rates of 2-year-old RT×RT, RT×JC, RT×WS, and RT×BT triploids remarkably surpassed that of RT×RT diploids. The survival rates of auto- and allotriploids were significantly higher than that of autodiploid of RT×RT. In each combination, the survival rate of females was higher than that of male, and this sex difference increased in order of allotirploid> autotriploid> autodiploid.
5) The ratios of body height/body length and body width/body length of triploid hybrids of RT X JC, RT×BN, RT×BT, and RT×WS were significantly higher than that of diploid RT×RT.
6) The karyotypes of triploids of RT×MS, RT×BN, RT×JC, RT×WS and RT×BT were presumed to be composed of 2 maternal genomes and 1 paternal genome.
