The view is widely held currently that vulvar carcinoma is preceded by leukoplakia, so that cytological and histological examination of leukoplakia is required to diagnose the early cancerous lesion.
Two cases of squamous cell carcinoma in situ of vulva with pigmentation, preceded by progressive uterine cervical carcinoma, has been reported in this paper. One case revealed melanin containing cells in the vulvar carcinoma lesion and the neighboring skin around carcinoma. And the other case showed melanin containing cells only in the neighboring skin around vulvar carcinoma.
The pigmentation disorders (not only hypo-pigmented condions but also hyper-pigmented lesions) are informative to detect the early metastasized vulvar carcinoma.
