抄録

We report imprint cytology of cloacogenic carcinoma of the anal canal. The patient was a 75 year-old woman with constipation. Imprint cytology was performed for an anal mass specimen for intraoperative rapid consultation. The smear revealed three-dimensional large cell clusters, whorl and bundle-like formation. A large number of naked cells were also seen. The nuclei of the tumor cells were oval or short spindled, and chromatin was fine to coarse granular. The cytoplasm stained faintly and the cell border was indistinct. The histological diagnosis was large non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma. To the best of our knowledge, detailed cytologic findings concerning non-lceratinizing squamous cell carcinoma have not previously been reported.
