A 25-year-old man presented disseminated, well-circumscribed punctate hypomelanosis of 2-3 mm in diameter on the trunk and extremitaties. He gave a history of acute arsenic poisoning from Morinaga dry powdered milk in 1955. The hypomelanosis appeared after the acute poisoning and persisted.<BR>Slit-dopa study of the hypomelanotic area revealed that the number of dopa-positive cells was not significantly reduced but the shapes weresmall with few dendrites. Electronmicroscopy showed melanocytes undergoing similar changes as those of senile depigmentation (idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis). It was suggested that the punctate hypomelanosis were due to decreased melanogenesis.
