92 patients with syphilis seen from Jan. 1, 1988 to Mar. 31, 1992 at the Dermatological Clinic of Osaka City University Hospital were analysed. Men accounted for 65.2% of the study population. The age ranged between 17 and 80 year-old and most of patients were in the fifth decades. They included 20 cases of primary and secondary stage and 36 cases of early latent syphilis. The frequency of ulcus durum was much higher than initial sclerosis. The treatment consisted mostly of oral penicillin administration. After adequate treatment, the VDRL titres in syphilis resens were much lower than in early latent cases.
