We determined the susceptibility ofN. gonorrhoeaeto 6315-S (flomoxef), and evaluated the therapeutic effect of the drug in gonococcal urethritis.<BR>The MIC's of 6315-S against 31 isolated strains ofN. gonorrhoeaewere 0.2-6.25μg/ml Three β-lactamase-producing strains also proved sensitive to the drug.<BR>6315-S was administered to 47 patients withN. gonorrhoeaein a dose of 1g or 0.5g by i. v. single-dose injection. The overall clinical efficacy rate was 81.6%(84.4% in the 1g administration and 66.7% in the 0.5g). The 3 patients with the β-lactamase-producing gonococcal infections were cured. 23 patients follow up for 7 days after treatment. Postgonococcal urethritis (PGU) was found 7 patients by the follow up. Of these 7, 3 wereChlamydia-positive culture, 5 wereUreaplasma-positive culture, and 2 were negative for both organisms.<BR>No side-effects were noted in any of the 45 patients observed.
