抄録

Fructose, glucose, sorbitol and inositol concentrations in the foetal fluids, genital tract secretions and tissues during preplacental period were determined.<BR>The genitalia of 11 healthy Holstein cows during 2080 days after insemination (day= 0) were obtaind at slaughter.<BR>Allantoic and amniotic fluids, uterine secretion and cervical mucus were collected by aspiration using a syringe after longitudinal incision of the genitalia, and tissues of isthmus of uterine tube, carunclar area, inter-carunclar endometrium and cervix were excised.<BR>Trimethylsilylated sugars and sugar alcohols in the samples were separated by gas-liquid chromatography. The concentration of the materials was determined using adonitol as internal standard.<BR>The results obtained were as follows.<BR>1) Fructose, sorbitol, glucose and inositol were identified in the foetal fluid, chorion, uterine secretion and endometrial tissue.<BR>2) The content of fructose and sorbitol in the uterine secretion varies definitely up to 80 days of gestation; higher up to 27 days than after 30 days of gestation and higher in the non-pregnanthorn than the opposite pregnant horn of the uterus.<BR>3) Main carbohydrates in allantoic and amniotic fluids were fructose, in chorion and uterine secretion after 27 days of gestation sorbitol, and in endometrial tissue and uterine secretion after 30 days of gestation glucose.<BR>4) Histologically it was observed in central parts of the uterine horns that the uterine epi-thelium covering the surface of carunclar area was destroyed within 20 days of gestation and base of the cotyledonary burrs was completely denuded. The surface epithelium of inter-carunclar area had diminished in 4 of 5 cows killed during 3040 days of gestation, and the capillaries in the compact layer of endometrium were dilated.<BR>Active cellular secretion of uterine glands was found after about 40 days of gestaion, however no increase of sugar and sugar alcohol levels was found in the uterine secretion and the tissue.<BR>5) It was claimed that main carbohyderate provided from maternal uterus for foetal nutriment consisted of sorbitol (by histotrophe) up to 27 days, glucose (by haemotrophe) after 30 days of gestation, and bovine embryo was able to utilize these carbohydrates.<BR>6) Secretion of carbohydrate was uncertain in the cervix and the oviduct during gestation.
