抄録

The observations on the water flow and nutrient salt concentration of the irrigation water were carried out every two days at a farm pond situated in the suburbs of Matsuyama City, where the lotus grew wild and water with domestic sewage flowed in.<BR>From the results of the above-mentioned observations, the conclusions obtained were as follows.<BR>(1) Owing to the blending of domestic sewage, the nutrient salt concentration of the irrigation water was 4-6 times higher than the standard of irrigation water quality.<BR>(2) It was found that nutrient salt in the irrigation water and its elimination ratio Were estimated at 75-85% during a 10-day period in a farm pond with growing lotus, and the effect. on water purification was remarkable.<BR>(3) The ability of eliminating salt by the growing lotus was estimated at 3.60 (kg/ha·d) in T-N and 0.89 (kg/ha·d) in T-P, and its values were not less than the Values of some other aquatic plants.<BR>(4) The results of this investigation mentioned above suggested that farm ponds with growing lotus would be able to be utilized for purification of water as an institiute of advanced treatment at the sububs of city.
