抄録

Cefteram pivoxil, a new oral cephem prodrug of Cefteram, was investigated clinically and fundamentally. The following results were obtained. 1) Cefteram pivoxil was administered to 100 patients with acute exacerbation of otorhinolaryngological infection including 30 cases of sinusitis, 14 cases of pharyngolaryngitis, 15 cases of tonsillitis, 31 cases of otitis media, 9 cases of otitis externa circumscripta and 1 cases of suppurative fistula auris congenita. The efficacy rate was 91.9%. 2) Clinical efficacy for these infections were revealed as follows: sinusitis 93.3%, pharyngolaryngitis 100%, tonsillitis 100%, otitis media 83.3%, otitis externa circumscripta 88.9%, suppurative fistula auris congenita 100%. 3) Concerning bacteriological respose, 37 strains (86.0%) were eradicated, 6 strains (14.0%) persisted. 4) Middle ear mucosal level of Cefteram after 200 mg admisistration were assayed in 4 cases. One case with severe infection showed 4.43μg/g, one other case showed 0.10μg/g. 5) A side effect of slight diarrhea was observed in one case No abnormality of labolatory data was detected. 6) This antibiotic was evaluated to be very useful in the otorhinolaryngological field.
