Abstract

Profilaggrin is one of the important proteins in the skin barrier function. It has a functional region, filaggrin 37kDa, which is related to keratin intermediate filament (KIF) aggregation and natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Recently, many studies have indicated that imperfect profilaggrin proteins can be produced even from several mutated-profilaggrin genes. However, filaggrin monomers are not formed from imperfect profilaggrin. It is thus suggested that the profilaggrin C-terminal region is mandatory for the processing of profilaggrin.Skin Research, Suppl. 16: 25-28, 2011
