抄録
Food garbage disposal is one of the major and intricate problems of urban areas. The efficient treatment of food garbage mitigates the greenhouse gases as well as to recover some valuable fuels and chemicals. Sub-critical hydrothermal treatment is a low-cost and efficient method for food garbage to hydrolyze and it is used for pre-treatment of aerobic or anaerobic digestion and production of liquid feed or fertilizer. There are a number of studies in literature on hydrothermal treatment of food garbage at sub-critical conditions but few studies are available on mechanical and chemical safety of the treatment. So the aim of this study is to assure the mechanical and chemical safety of the sub-critical hydrothermal treatment of food garbage, especially when foreign matters, such as detergent, insecticide, bleach and plastic resins are contained. Temporal changes of temperature and pressure inside a batch reactor at predefined heating temperature and residence time [200 Degrees Celsius and 30 minutes (mins)] were observed and gaseous and liquid components generated by hydrothermal treatment were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.
