  • Connectivity Analysis of Electrocorticography Signals in Intractable Epilepsy

Epilepsy prevalence is up to about 1% of the population. 25% of these patients have intractable epilepsy. For these patients however, surgery is an effective treatment, therefore accurately determining the propagation path and epileptic foci is a crucial factor in surgical treatment. In this study, we propose a method to analyze connectivity among the brain signals during epileptiform seizure which were recorded from the electrodes directly placed on the cortex. First, we obtained the delay time and maximum value of the correlation function and defined connectivity strength between channels by a linear combination of the two. Then, using the connectivity strength, we configured a minimum spanning tree, which was estimated to be the epilepsy propagation path. As a result, the foci of epilepsy moved slightly for a total of four times for each seizure in the same patient; different propagation paths of the seizure at different times was shown.
