  • Gaseous ethanol visualization system for exhausted human breath by reaction of enzyme catalyst

抄録

An imaging of exhausted breath ethanol system has been developed in this study for monitoring of change in metabolism and disease screening in real time. This system measures ethanol concentrations as intensities of chemiluminescence (CL) by luminol reaction with alcohol oxidase (AOD) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The CL was emitted during the gaseous ethanol introduced on enzyme-immobilized mesh which was employed as a gas visualizer. AOD catalyzes alcohol into aldehydes with the production of hydrogen peroxide, which can be led to the HRP-luminol-H2O2 reaction for the CL recorded by a high-sensitive CCD camera. CL intensity was obtained after processed the CCD images and its relationship with ethanol concentrations were confirmed. The calibration range of ethanol vapor was from 30 to 400 ppm. This system shows rapidly and accurately responses and a visible measurement, which leads an analysis to non-invasive diagnosing and monitoring disease and metabolism states specifically at real time.
