Pressure-Induced Amide I' Frequency Shift of Model Compound of Proteins in Water

Pressure dependence of the amide I' frequency of model compounds of proteins having the non-ordered structure in water have been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy. We decomposed the amide I' frequency shift into three contributions; the hydrogen bond between peptide bond and water molecules, the dihedral angles of φ and ψ, and the electrostatic interaction between the dissociation group such as the carboxyl (COOH) group and water molecules. The pressure dependence of the electrostatic interaction of the COOH group shows the largest. We proposed the possible cause for the difference in the pressure-induced amide I' frequency shifts of model compounds of proteins in water.
