Sub-micron and micron ranged drugs have wide applications such as inhalation therapy and cancer remedy. In this study, ultra-fine particles of adhesive active ingredient drug have been designed and prepared by using a supercritical carbon dioxide. The effects of operating parameters such as nozzle diameter, fluid temperature and pressure on the size distribution of the products were investigated. The optimum operating parameters for producing ultra-fine drug were determined experimentally. By means of a novel spray nozzle, production of film coated ultra-fine particles was also attempted. Sustained release property of the coated particles was evaluated. In addition, an effective particle collecting system was developed and its validity was investigated.
