Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are known as a type of adhesives that typically has properties of e.g. ease to attach/peel off and stable adhesion, which is utilized in labels, tapes etc. Some of the important characteristics of PSAs are their low glass transition temperature (Tg) , and modulus on the order of 104—107 Pa at room temperature.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are conductive materials that can realize high electrical conductivity with low concentration in hybrids. Recently, CNT-polymer nanocomposites attracts great attentions because of their ability to form conducting networks, which is attributed to their high aspect ratios.
Here, urethane- or acrylate-based PSA or acrylic emulsion PSA composites incorporating with multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) or single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) are reported where the hybridization was achieved by simply mixing and casting of the mixed solutions. The relationship between dispersion states of MWCNT in the polymer matrix, conductivity of the composites, and the surface free energies are also investigated. Finally large contribution of the surface free energies of the polymers both on the MWCNT dispersion states and the conductivity of the composite, the particle size of the emulsions on the conductivity of the composite in where SWCNTs are well-dispersed.
