<p>Hydrothermal treatment of several biomass samples were conducted at 200°C using a semi-batch type equipment for the purpose of fractionation. After the treatment, hemicellulose ( xylan ) was completely fractionated as a solubilized products, and most of cellulose was recovered in the solid residue. These behaviors were not depended on the species. While, in the case of lignin, it was depended on the species. That is to say, the solubilization ratio of lignin were rice straw: 78.5 wt%, rice hull: 63.2 wt% and moso-bamboo: 57.2 wt%. The residue derived from moso-bamboo was carbonized at 600 and 800°C. The maximum specific surface area of the obtained charcoal was 555.6 m2/g at 800°C.</p>
