The distribution and habitat conditions of lorises and macaques were sur-veyed in North-central Vietnam and in a part of North-western Vietnam (Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Hoa Binh and a part of Son La; 17o14'-20o49' N and 104o35'-106o41' E) by interview and pet observa-tion. Pygmy lorises (Nycticebus pygmaeus) were found in almost areas with both the secondary and primary forests, though their population has re-duced. The northern slow lorises (N. bengalensis) were limited to the primary forests or high mountainous forests with low frequency. Rhesus (Macaca mulatta) and stump-tailed macaques (M. arctoides) were found to range in all forested areas. The latter tends to deploy primary forests and have the highest frequency. Assamese macaques (M. assamensis) were mainly found in almost areas with the high forests and cliffy rocky moun-tainous forest, though their population has extensively decreased. The northern pig-tailed macaques (M. leonina) were reported to range in North-central Vietnam from 17o14' N to 19o03' N, and although there are no records from North-western Vietnam, isolated population possibly oc-curs in 20o23' N to 20o44' N. This species tends to inhabit mountainous forests with both the primary forests and disturbed forests. By the eco-nomical development and the increase of human population all species have extensively lost their habitats through logging, agriculture encroach-ment, and construction of infrastructures, and are under strong hunting pressure. Conservation measures should be taken urgently.
