Madhupur deciduous Sal forest at the middle part of Bangladesh represents a considerable component of our ecosystem. During last four decades the forest area subjected to many changes which have great impact on ecosystem and forest dependent people. Remote Sensing (RS) data and techniques, in combination with GIS are fundamental to analyze and characterize land cover and its changes. The purpose of the study is to detect the forest cover changes for the period 1973-2010, by using multi-temporal and multi-spectral satellite images. Landsat scenes (MSS 1973, TM 1991, ETM+ 2001 and TM 2010) have been used as a tool for detecting and studying the forest cover changes. The result showed that clear changes have occurred in the area, reducing in forest cover with increasing of crop lands, rubber plantation and settlements.
