<p>In this work, various high aluminium zeolites with different channel and pore size types, such as H-ZSM-5, H-beta and H-USY zeolites, were used for the deoxygenation of bio-oil derived from lignin. The upgraded bio-oils were analyzed by using GC-MS and the effects of zeolites properties on the bio-oil quality were investigated. It is found that the amount of aromatic hydrocarbon as well as coke formation were related with the channel and pore size type. The highest amount of aromatic hydrocarbons formation was obtained by using H-ZSM-5, followed in order by H-beta and H-USY zeolites, and the highest selectivity toward monoaromatic hydrocarbons was obtained by using H-beta zeolite. High coke formation was resulted by using H-USY zeolite with a large pore size. It is expected to provide a guidance to select zeolite catalysts for bio-oil upgrading.</p>
