<p>This paper deals with the rattle of multi-step helical gear system. The effects of the mesh stiffness variation, the tooth profile error, the torque variation and the teeth numbers of gears sets on the rattle are studied numerically. In the numerical analysis, shooting method with high accuracy is used. To obtain the high accurate periodic solutions, all cases of meshing are considered and the very short time integral step is adopted. As a result, the followings were made clear. (1) About the resonance amplitudes caused by tooth profile errors, those are not affected so much by the teeth numbers of the gears set. (2) About the resonance amplitudes caused by the torque variation, those are affected by the teeth numbers of the gears set, and when the period of the torque variation is equal to integral multiples of the mesh periods, the amplitude becomes large because of the interaction of the torque variation and vibration force by teeth profile errors.</p>
