<p>This study clarifies the change of image toward budo among students attending budo classes after a half-term of university-level physical education classes have been completed.</p><p>In this study, 395 students were surveyed who had opted to take one of either karate, kyudo, kendo, or judo classes in the spring and autumn semesters as part of T University’s physical education classes. Students were asked about their image of budo, the structure of which was revealed by factor analysis. Further, we examined whether half a year of budo experience brings similar changes in image toward budo. The findings are as follows:</p><p>1) As a result of factor analysis, the four factors of “traditional culture”, “pleasure‒cheerful”, “pain‒danger”, and “silence” were extracted.</p><p>2) “Pleasure‒cheerful” and “silence” factors scored higher points after students took classes in karate, kyudo, and kendo.</p><p>3) “Traditional culture” and “pain‒danger” factors scored higher points after students took budo lessons.</p>
