<p>Covalently crosslinked liquid-crystalline polymer films containing azobenzene chromophores bend toward a light source upon irradiation with UV light. However, covalently crosslinked polymers cannot be remolded after preparation because they are insoluble and infusible. In this work, we prepared physically crosslinked azobenzene liquid-crystalline polymers. We sheared the melt polymers to obtain films with homogenous alignment. The films showed macroscopic deformation upon exposure to light. This result indicates that physical crosslinks can convert the motion of mesogens into mechanical work of the films.</p>
