<p>Supramolecular liquid crystals are complexes in which some molecules are assembled by non-covalent bonds such as a hydrogen bond, as a result, they show liquid crystalline phases. Nucleic acid bases selectively form thermodynamically stable Watson-Crick base pairs with its complementary partner by the hydrogen bond. We focused on the nucleic acid base supramolecular complexes with a view toward the emergence of liquid crystalline phases. In this study, the adenine and thymine derivatives with an oligo (ethylene oxide) chain or a chiral moiety were synthesized, and the phase transition behavior of their complexes was investigated.</p>
