The abnormal daily variation of horizontal force at Huancayo and in Uganda

(1) Huancayo—The establishment of a magnetic observatory at Huancayo, Peru (12° 03′ south, 75° 20′ west), by the Carnegie Institution of Washington, was soon rewarded by a remarkable and totally unexpected discovery. This was the abnormally large amplitude of the solar daily variation S of horizontal magnetic force (H) at that station. Later it was found that the lunar daily variation of H was also abnormally large. The other two magnetic components, vertical and east force, showed no such abnormality at Huancayo.
