抄録

The curing reaction proceeds in two steps. Esterification reaction occurred in the first step, whose rate was proportional to the concentrations of I, II, and III. The apparent activation energy was obtained as 7.09 kcal/mol, and the large negative activation entropy (-42cal-mol-1. deg-1) suggests the curing is an SN2 reaction by way of an intermediate of cyclic termolecular complex. In the second step, both esterification and etherification reactions occurred. It is assumed that the mechanism of the esterification is the same as in the case of the first step. The etherification might be considered to be a sort of anionic polymerization of epoxy groups in I which is initiated with III, because the content of ether bonds in the cured epoxy resins was independent of the concentration of OH groups in I.
