Dynamic and static loading tests of steel pure frames were carried out in order to investigate the restoring force characteristics of steel structures under earthquake loading. A model structure was composed of two columns,a rigid roof and a rigid base. Shaking table was used for the models for dynamic loading. The static loading test was conducted so that the specimen could trace history of relative story-displacement of the frame in the dynamic loading test. The load-carrying capacity of the frame under dynamic loading increased by 20% higher than that under static loading. In addition,the energy absorption under dynamic loading increased by 15% compared with that under static loading.
